On January 15, 2001 China donated a two storey primary school to the Yanking Township in Myanmar, marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China-Myanmar diplomatic ties. Chinese ambassador to Myanmar Liang Dong and Myanmar Education Minister U Than Aung inaugurated the building by cutting the ribbon, and First Secretary of the Myanmar State Peace and Development Council and Chairman of the Myanmar Education Committee Lieutenant-General Khin Nyunt unveiled the monument of the building. Construction of the 150,000 USD building, which has 10 classrooms and can accommodate 500 students, began on June 26, 2000 and took 5 months to complete.
