On December 10, 2003 the Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania Yu Qingtai and an official from the Tanzanian Ministry of Finance signed the Economic and Technological Co-operation Agreement between China and Tanzania on behalf of their governments in Dar es Salaam, the capital of Tanzania. The agreement stated that China would provide an 80 mln Chinese yuan grant to Tanzania, which will be used in economic and technological co-operation projects or to provide general materials and goods. It appears that the project may have been suspended. A document from 2006 about treaties in force in Tanzania includes other technical agreements but does not have any information about this agreement. Similarly, a Chinese page regarding Chinese official agreements with Tanzania does not list the agreement as a project.
