Description

On April 24, 2008, during a visit by Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, the Chinese Government pledged to provide a RMB 0.5 million grant to the Government of Bangladesh for unspecified purposes. This 'token grant' came at the same time as an initial RMB 60 million RMB grant to fund the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center (captured by linked project ID#34070) (see 'China offers blank cheque to Bangladesh for uplift of socioeconomic status; FM Yang hands out help in cash and kind to mark off his visit (Corrected)').It is unclear if the funding has been disbursed. The Economic Research Division of Bangladesh's Ministry of Finance 2014 Grant Commitment and Disbursement Report only reports a single grant for 2008, which went to the Exhibition Center, so it is possible that either this grant was never disbursed or it was too small for Bangladesh's ERD to track (see 'COMMITMENT AND DISBURSEMENT OF GRANTS-2014/15').
