Description
On December 31, 2011, an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement was signed between China and Afghanistan for the provision of 150 million RMB (23.5 million USD) in grant aid to Afghanistan's Ministry of Finance. The report published in Afghanistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs website mentions that the grant would be used for projects based on consultations between the two countries, while a Chinese media article mentioned that it the grant will be used to improve the livelihood of the people in Afghanistan. It was reported earlier that Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi had promised that his country would provide 150 million RMB to Afghanistan for education, agriculture and administrative capacity building fields. The pledge was made during his meeting with the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai at the sideline of the Bonn Conference on 6 December 2011. Subprojects implemented through this grant were: the reconstruction and equipping of Jamhooryat Hospital in Kabul (project ID #34502), the reconstruction of the Parwan Irrigation Canal (project ID #34509), construction of the Conference Hall within the Arg premises, the reconstruction of the Ministry of Education’s Centre for National Science and Technology (project ID #53742), the construction of the Department of Chinese Language and guest house at Kabul University (project ID #34627), and the provision of 100 ambulances to the Ministry of Public Health (project ID #34629).
