Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On May 10, 2019, the Chinese Consul General in Istanbul, Cui Wei presented scholarships to 37 Turkish students who are studying Chinese. The monetary value of the scholarships is unknown, as is what is included in the scholarships. These scholarships mark a continuation of a program by the Chinese Consulate General in Istanbul that has existed since 2016 to give scholarships to Turkish students who study Chinese. The scholarships are also intended to help foster bilateral cooperation, especially given China's investments in Turkey and an increase in Chinese tourists visiting the country.

Staff comments

Given that the scholarships promote the study of Chinese within Turkey and do not appear to be for study in China, AidData has coded this project as having representational intent.
