Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In 2007, a group of 50 architectural workers provided by the Shanghai Municipal Government traveled to Dunedin, New Zealand, to participate in the construction of the city's Chinese garden, the Dunedin Chinese Garden. The garden was built to commemorate Chinese settlers in Dunedin who have contributed to the city since the gold rushes of the 19th century. The garden cost more than RMB 30 million, funded through various sources, and opened to the public in 2008. The project is supported by Shanghai's local government and museum officials, who have helped guide the design, construction, and maintenance of the garden. Other details about the support are unknown.
