In 2017, Hanban provided $992,571 NZD in funding for the Confucius Institute at the University of Auckland to support operations. The funding included $326,449 NZD on education, community and culture, and operations, with $502,853 NZD going towards accommodation and stipends for the Institute's Mandarin Language Assistants, and $163,269 NZD on Confucius Classrooms.
