Project narrative

The 17th Chinese medical team in Guyana arrived in October of 2021 and left on September 9, 2022. During their one-year stint, the group attended to over one million patients and performed over 70,000 surgeries. The leader of the medical team is Dr. Duan Yunfei. The team served at Georgetown Public Hospital and carried out various activities, including donating medical equipment to Georgetown Public Hospital (see Record ID#100175) and signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) (see Record ID#99963) for carrying out the training of Guyanese doctors (see Record ID#99965). A departure ceremony was held for the team on September 9, 2022 at the Ministry of Health of Guyana. China’s Ambassador to Guyana Guo Haiyan and Gui Health Minister Anthony attended the ceremony together. Rabalan, CEO of Gui Georgetown Public Hospital, Hu Hanming, Business Counselor of the Embassy, and the 17th medical team members also participated. At the ceremony, the Minister of Health of Guyana presented certificates of honor to the medical team members.
