Project narrative

On March 30, 2022, China's Minstry of Commerce (MOFCOM) and the Government of Timor-Leste signed a $300,000 grant agreement for the China-Timor-Leste Friendship Field Rehabiliation Project. The purpose of the project was to rehabilitate the Lecidere stadium -- also known as the China-Timor-Leste Friendship Football (Soccer) Field -- in the capital city of Dili. Shanghai Construction Group was the EPC contractor responsible for project implementation. The project commenced in early June 2022 and concluded on August 31, 2022. it was originally scheduled for completion on May 20, 2022. A handover ceremony for the recreational field was held on August 30th, 2022. The field was rehabilitated by China Embassy for Timorese to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Timor-Leste. After the ceremony, the China-Timor-Leste Friendship Football Field hosted the first match played by Timorese teams. A joint team from Timor-Leste's Youth Sports State Secretariat and community managers will oversee the public-use football fields built with China's aid (see: 东帝汶政府将组建团队管理中国援建的足球场). The field is located in the capital of Timor-Leste, Dili.
