Project narrative

On December 2, 2022, China’s Ambassador to Papua New Guinea, Zeng Fanhua, and Secretary-General of the PNG Ministry of Health jointly inaugurated the China-PNG Friendship Minimally Invasive Surgery Center at the Port Moresby General Hospital. During the inauguration ceremony, Ambassador Zeng Fanhua donated medical supplies to PNG on behalf of the Chinese Government. The medical supplies included MIS surgical equipment, radiation protection kits, medical consumables for TCM treatment and surgery, laparoscopes, endoscopes, and high frequency electrosurgical knives. The purpose of this donation was to establish efficiency in treatment and diagnostics at the new surgery center. The monetary value of the donation is unknown. The China-PNG Friendship Minimally Invasive Surgery Center will introduce surgery based on smaller incisions and quicker recovery. The center will be jointly operated by the Chinese medical team and Port Moresby General Hospital staff. It will engage in general surgery, urology, gynecology, neurosurgery, and the training of local staff in order to boost PNG’s medical development.
