Project narrative
On February 5, 2022, Premier Li Keqiang met with James Marape, the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, in Beijing to exchange views on issues of common interest between the two countries. During the meeting, the two parties signed an exchange of letters on Phase II of the China-Aided Juncao Technology and Upland Rice Technology Cooperation Project to Papua New Guinea. Exact details about the project, including operations of Phase II, were not specified. The financing details of Phase II are also unavailable. The Juncao and Upland Rice Technology Project was started in 2000 and received funding from the Fujian Province in 2017. The project has been implemented for more than 20 years and has played an important role in agricultural development in Papua New Guinea.
