Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

The Confucius Classroom at Gymnasium Ernestinum was established on July 5, 2011. The Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) awarded the Confucius Classroom status in recognition of the school's achievements in Chinese language and culture education, providing Gymnasium Ernestinum with a grant. No.8 Middle School in Chongqing (重庆八中) was the partner Chinese institution for this Confucius Classroom. Gymnasium Ernestinum is a high school. The Confucius Classroom was the second Confucius Classroom to be established in Germany. It is run jointly by the Schaumburg district as the school authority and by Hanban. Gymnasium Ernestinum’s relationship with No.8 Middle School in Chongqing started as “friendly schools” (友好学校) from 2007. Gymnasium Ernestinum’s move to establish Confucius Classroom began with the signing of an agreement on March 1, 2010. The Confucius Classroom began operating from July 5, 2010, and this was followed by the signing of a cooperation agreement on December 7, 2010, and culminated with the official opening on July 5, 2011.
