On January 1, 2022, the 22nd Chinese medical team to Rwanda began providing free medical services to patients. The team was appointed by the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Health Commission, and likely arrived in late December 2021 after the farewell party of the 21st Medical Team on December 10, 2021 (See Record ID#96548). In total, there were fifteen members: eleven doctors, one nurse, one translator, and two chefs. The departments represented by the eleven doctors included internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, and anesthesiology, among others. The team was stationed in Rwanda's Masaka and Kibungo hospitals and provided free medical services to patients; occasionally, its members also provided medical outreach programs for community health centers. On December 28, 2022, the Chinese Embassy hosted a farewell ceremony for the 22nd team. Along with the team members, figures in attendance included Chinese Ambassador to Rwanda, Wang Xuekun, Permanent Secretary of Rwanda's Ministry of Health, Zachee Iyakaremye, and the Chinese Embassy in Rwanda's Political Counselor and Economic and Commercial Counselor, Xing Yuchun and Wang Jiaxin respectively. Since 1982, China has sent over 270 medical personnel to Rwanda who had altogether treated over 500,000 patients.
