Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On August 30, 2022, an opening ceremony of a mushroom cultivation training project was held and attended by Chinese ambassador to Rwanda, Wang Xuekun, and the Director General of Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (RAB), Patrick Karangwa. The project was organized by both the Chinese Embassy in Rwanda and RAB. It consisted of a class in which agricultural experts from China taught Rwandan farmers about economically-beneficial methods to cultivate button mushrooms using Juncao technology. Moreover, there were a total of 50 Rwandan participants. The project is said to be a result of Xi Jinping's Global Development Initiative and the 8th Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-African Cooperation (FOCAC) in Rwanda, which took place from November 29 to 30, 2021. Furthermore, this training course likely took place in the China-Rwanda Agriculture Technology Demonstration Centre (C-RATDC) (See Record ID#16801).

Staff comments

1. According to Source ID #195181, at the time of this project in 2022, Patrick Karangwa was the Director General of RAB, but starting in January 2023 he became the Director General of Agricultural Modernization at MINIGRI. 2. The promotion of Juncao technology is a core component of the China-Rwanda Agriculture Technology Demonstration Centre (C-RATDC). As of 2021, the Center had held 48 training courses on Juncao technology. Furthermore, both the Center and RAB are both located in Rubona, Huye district, Southern Province, Rwanda. Thus, although no explicit statement of the training course's location has been found, given the background of C-RATDC (captured in Record ID#16801) and the same location of the Center and RAB, there is strong evidence that the training course was held at C-RATDC in Rubona. Therefore, Aiddata has coded the geographical location as such.
