Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In 2017, 29% of the funding for the University of Technology Sydney's Australia-China Relations Institute (UTS: ACRI) derived from corporate contributions. The Australia-China Relations Institute is an affiliated think tank established by the University of Technology Sydney to focus on Australia-China relations. Corporate contributions for the budget were received from Yancoal, Bank of China (BOC), and China Construction Bank in addition to 13 other contributors (Qantas, Star Entertainment, Macquarie Group, King & Wood Mallesons, Deloitte, Crown Resorts, Guantao Law Firm, Holding Redlich, HSBC, PwC, Sydney Stock Exchange, Mr. Andy Wong and EG Funds). The total corporate contributions towards the 2017 funding totaled to $537,500 AUD, of which Yancoal is estimated to have provided $33,593.75 AUD given the assumption of equal contributions.

Staff comments

1. To estimate the contributions by the Chinese state-owned entities, AidData has assumed that each donor granted in equal proportions ($33,593.75 AUD each) for the $537,500 AUD total corporate contributions.
