Project narrative

On October 19, 2023, 8 University of Technology (UTech) Jamaican students were presented with the Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarship by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Jamaica, Chen Daojiang. According to the University of Technology, the scholarships were funded by the Chinese Embassy in Jamaica and valued at $1.6 million JMD. The presentation ceremony took place at UTech's Papine Campus. The scholarship recipients were each awarded $200,000 towards their at UTech tuition and related expenses for the 2023/2024 academic year. Since 2018, the Embassy in Jamaica has cooperated with the UWI Mona Branch in the "Chinese Ambassador Scholarship" project.
