Project narrative

In 2012, the Government of China provided a RMB 35,000,000 grant to the Government of Malta for the Chinese Garden Refurbishment and Expansion Project. This project supported a construction project for the Garden of Serenity located in Santa Lucia (or St Lucija), Malta. A grant agreement for the project was announced on June 25, 2012 at a joint-press conference. Implementation of the project began on October 18, 2013, with Suzhou Landscape Architecture Investment Development Group Co., Ltd., China IPPR International Engineering Corporation, and China Urban Construction Design & Research Institute designing and implementing the project. On October 18, 2013, a groundbreaking ceremony was also held for the project. On April 2, 2014, a meeting for the internal completion acceptance of the project was held. The project was completed on May 9, 2014 and a handover certificate was signed by the Chinese Embassy in Malta and the Ministry of Finance.

The St Lucija Chinese Garden of was originally designed in October 1995 and constructed in 1997 by Suzhou Landscape Architecture Investment Development Group Co., Ltd with financial support from the Chinese Government.
