Project narrative

On February 24, 2022, Ambassador Li Ming (on behalf of the National Health Commission of China) and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health of the Solomon Islands, McNeil, signed the "Protocol between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Solomon Islands on the Dispatch of the Chinese Medical Team to the Solomon Islands". Shortly after this agreement was signed, Guizhou Province organized the first medical team (consisting of 6 personnel) to be dispatched to the Solomon Islands. An online send-off ceremony was held on March 17, 2022, and the team arrived in the Solomon Islands by April 6, 2022. The team was stationed at the National Referral Hospital (NRH), where they provided clinical services in areas such as urology, cardiology, nephrology, and traditional Chinese medicine. Their one-year term concluded in March 2023, and they formally handed over responsibilities to the incoming second team before returning to China on March 22, 2023 (see Record ID#107100). In December 2023, the National Health Commission officially recognized the 1st Chinese Medical Team to the Solomon Islands as a “National Advanced Collective in Foreign Medical Aid” in its annual commendation list.
