Project narrative

On June 15, 2022, China donated 210 apple seedlings to Eritrea. The seeds will be distributed to farmland in the suburbs of Asmara, Eritrea. This donation is part of Phase 3 of China’s advanced agricultural technology project, committed at the 8th Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. The monetary value of this donation is unknown. A handover ceremony was held for this donation in Asmara, the capital of Eritrea. Cai Ge, China’s Ambassador to Eritrea, and the Minister of Agriculture of Eritrea attended and signed the handover certificate on behalf of the two governments. Liu Yunmin, the leader of the aid project team, and two team members and key officials of the Ministry of Agriculture also participated. Following the donation ceremony, Ambassador Cai Ge inspected the apple demonstration park of the assistance project in the suburbs of Asmara, learned more about the growth of 210 apple seedlings aided by China, provided guidance for next steps, and celebrated the opening of the apple demonstration park.
