Narrative

Project narrative

In March 2020, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, and Xiamen Airlines jointly donated medical supplies to KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KLM) to support COVID-19 response in the Netherlands. The first shipment of supplies arrived in Amsterdam on a Xiamen Airlines plane on March 18, 2020, and consisted of approximately 90,000 masks and 50,000 pairs of gloves. KLM then sent these supplies to Dutch healthcare institutions, including Erasmus MC in Rotterdam. It is unclear whether additional shipments were sent from these Chinese airlines to KLM. KLM works with these three Chinese airlines as partners, and sent a donation to China earlier in 2020. China Eastern Airlines' contribution is captured in Record ID#102053. China Southern Airlines' contribution is captured in Record ID#102070. Xiamen Airlines' contribution is captured in Record ID#102071.

1. AidData has estimated the transaction amount for this donation based on price catalogues from the World Health Organization (WHO). Please see the TUFF Methodology for additional details. 2. AidData has assumed that the three Chinese airlines involved in the donation contributed equally. Their estimated individual transaction amount has been calculated as $83,000 divided by 3 = $27,666.67
