Project narrative

In March 2014, the China State Council Information Office (SCIO) donated a China Library to the College of Europe in Belgium. On March 28, 2014, the China Library was inaugurated by senior officials from the funding and recipient institutions. This donation occurred while President Xi Jinping conducted a tour of Europe and was intended to encourage educational and cultural exchanges between China and Belgium. The donation included around 10,000 books in addition to audio-visual publications. Materials were in six different languages. SCIO also furnished a 100-sqm room designated by the College of Europe for the China Library.
