Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On June 2, 2022, the Chinese Embassy in the Bahamas donated eight dragon boats to the Bahamas Chinese Dragon Boat Association (BCDBA) in preparation for the inaugural Bahamian Dragon Boat Festival in August 2022. At a ceremony attended by Bahamian Minister of Youth, Sports, and Culture Mario Bowleg, Chinese Ambassador Dai Qingli signed the handover certificate with Fan Qile, President of the BCDBA. The monetary value of the donation is unknown. On August 20, 2022, the inaugural Dragon Boat Festival of the Bahamas was co-sponsored by the Chinese Embassy in the Bahamas and the BCDBA. This was part of a series of celebrations for the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the Bahamas. Ambassador Dai attended the competition and awarded medals and trophies to the winning team. BCDBA President Fan Qile expressed gratitude to the Chinese Embassy for donating dragon boats and actively promoting the traditional Chinese sport in the Bahamas. This donation aims to immerse more Bahamians in Chinese culture, boost tourism with a new sporting event, train youth athletes, and support future dragon boat competitions.
