Full Description

Project narrative

On June 11, 2022, the Chinese Government dispatched the 19th medical team from Zhejiang Province to the Central African Republic. The team was stationed at the Friendship Hospital (Hôpital de l'Amitié), which was built with funding from the Chinese Government during the 1980s, in the capital city of Bangui. The medical team had 11 members, including 9 doctors from the departments of neurology, ophthalmology, gynecology, surgery, acupuncture, testing, anesthesia, radiology and pharmacy. The team completed its 18-month term of service and returned to China on December 28, 2023. The doctors provided diverse medical services to more than 36,000 patients. They also introduced 10 new medical technologies and projects to enhance the healthcare sector in the country. The Chinese Government has sent medical teams to Central African Republic every two years since 1978 (except for a 7-year pause for political reasons). 2023 marks the 60th anniversary of China's foreign aid medical teams.
