Project narrative

As of March 28, 2022, plans for the China Antimalarial Group and the Sao Tome and Principe Ministry of Health to work together in 10 malaria-prone villages to eliminate malaria were in place. The announcement was made by the Chinese Advisory Office Against Malaria. The project is timed to be at the start of the gravana season (absence of rain). These 10 villages include Bairro de Liberdade, Diogo Nunes, Campo de Milho, Oque dei Rei, Poto-Poto, Budo-Budo, and São João da Vargem, as well as other similar areas in Mé-Zochi, Cantagalo, Lembá, and Lobata. The effort was intended to run from March to June 2022 with three cycles of fumigation, each spaced a month apart. The national drug used is Artequick (Arteminina/Artemisinin and Piperaquina/Piperaquine) which was developed independently by the PRC and has been used in aiding LMICs eradicate malaria since 2017.
