Project narrative
As part of the Social Action Month launched by the Chinese Embassy to celebrate 50 years of China-Togo relations, the 25th Chinese medical team to Togo held a free clinic in the Adeta Town Health Center on November 30, 2022. In addition to providing free medical care to more than 300 patients, the medical team, represented by Captain Liu Yu, donated medicines and medical equipment to aid the Health Center's fight against COVID-19. The monetary value of the medicines delivered and the cost of examinations were not specified. Adeta is the hometown of the Speaker of Togo's National Assembly. The Governor of Kpele province, two local mayors, and representatives of the National Assembly visited the clinic site. Furthermore, the Adeta Town Health Center Director, Local Health Bureau Director, as well as the Director, teachers, and students of the Confucius Institute at the University of Lomé participated in the clinic. The clinic in Adeta was the first of at least three charity clinics held by the Chinese medical team during Social Action Month. Another was held in the city of Kara on December 1, 2022 and is captured in Record ID#103531 and a third was held in Badougbé, Vo Prefecture on December 23, 2022 and is captured in Record ID#103532. The goal of the free clinic tour is to provide better access to health care for the population, especially for the most vulnerable.
Staff comments
1. Adeta is also known by the name of Kpélé-Adéta. 2. Adeta Town Health Center is also known as Kpélé-Adéta Prefectural Hospital Center or Centre Hospitalier Prefectoral D'Adeta in French 3. The presence of Captain Liu Yu (see Record ID#103385) at the handover ceremony suggests that it was the Lomé-based team, and not the Kara-based team, who operated the free clinic in Adeta. This is more plausible considering Adeta is significantly closer to Lomé than it is Kara.
