Project narrative

In early 2022, the Chinese government donated 200,000 Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine doses to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) for distribution to Palestinian refugees in Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon. As of February 24, 2022, the vaccine doses had been delivered by the UNRWA to the recipient countries.

According to the UNICEF COVID-19 Vaccine Market Dashboard, the price of a single Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine dose is $18 (https://www.oecd.org/officialdocuments/publicdisplaydocumentpdf/?cote=DCD/DAC/STAT(2022)33&docLanguage=En). As such, AidData has estimated the monetary value of the 2022 donation as $3.6 million. 2. China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA)'s logo appears in photos of the donation. As such, it is assumed CIDCA is the financier.
