Full Description

Project narrative

On April 28, 2022, the Chinese Embassy and Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed a protocol to continue China’s dispatch of medical teams to Tunisia (2021-2026). Since 1973, the Chinese Government has been dispatching medical teams to Tunisia. The Jiangxi Province is responsible for sending the teams. In December 2021, China sent its 26th medical team to aid Tunisia's general health efforts and efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic. Work was handed over to the team from China's 25th medical team in early January 2022. The medical team consisted of 38 members, including acupuncturists, ophthalmologists, obstetricians, gynecologists, cardiologists, gastroenterologists, dermatologists, pediatricians, radiologists, general surgeons and anesthesiologists. It was split into 4 teams stationed at Jendouba regional hospital (Hôpital Régional De Jendouba or المستشفى الجهوي بجندوبة), Sidi Bouzid regional hospital (Hôpital Régional De Sidi Bouzid or المستشفى الجهوي بسيدي بوزيد), Houcine Bouzaiene regional hospital (Hôpital Régional Houcine Bouzaiène or المستشفى الجهوي الحسين بوزيان), and Mongi Slim Hospital (Hôpital Mongi Slim or مستشفى المنجي سليم) in the northern suburbs of Tunis. Throughout their 12 month term of service, the medical team provided more than 46,000 outpatient and emergency services, performed more than 2,500 operations, delivered more than 1,300 newborns, conducted more than 21,000 TCM diagnosis and treatment, trained 17 acupuncture doctors, conducted 12 free clinics in primary schools and communities, and donated 210 boxes of various epidemic prevention medical supplies. On October 27, 2022, the medical team offered free acupuncture and moxibustion clinical services at the University of Carthage. The medical team completed its term of service in December 2022.
