Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On February 12, 2009, the Chinese Government and an unnamed cultural foundation donated a statue of Abraham Lincoln to the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in honor of Lincoln's 200th birthday. The bronze statue, titled “Before the Day of Decisive Battle”, stood at 8.3 feet tall and was designed by Chinese artist Yuan Xikun. Due to regulation over Philadelphia's massive public art collection, Philadelphia could not accept the donation. The sculpture was stored in various art galleries across the city before it was eventually auctioned off in 2012 for $550 USD, significantly under its market value.
