Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On April 3, 2020, the Nanhu District of China donated 10,000 personal protective equipment (PPE) masks and other various medical supplies to the Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso, Indiana. The donation is estimated to be worth approximately $7,000 USD. The donation resulted from a sister-city relationship between the City of Valparaiso, Valparaiso University, and the Nanhu District of China. The Nanhu District's gift to Porter Regional Hospital was made following a previous donation of masks from Valparaiso University to Nanhu District in early February 2020.

Staff comments

1. The transaction amount was estimated using AidData's COVID Transaction Estimator ($0.7 per mask * 10,000 masks). No estimation was made for the other unspecified donated medical supplies. 2. The date (4/3/2020) follows the City of Valparaiso's announcement of the donation reception. It is possible that the donation was received before the announcement; therefore, the commitment and implementation dates are coded as "estimated."
