Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In 2020, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) (USA) N.A. donated a total of 100,000 N95 masks to the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in Queens, New York, and the Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. The donation arrived on May 4, 2020. ICBC also donated 16,000 pairs of gloves, as well as thousands of shoe covers and face shields, to a hospital in New Jersey. These donations were made between the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic (mid-March 2020) and September 1, 2020.

Staff comments

1. The N95 masks were donated to the two New York hospitals on May 4, 2020, per Source ID#200301. The "estimated" boxes remain checked because there is no confirmation that the donation to the New Jersey hospital was completed on the same day. 2. The estimated value of the donation was determined using AidData's COVID Transaction Estimator in September 2020 prices. 100,000 N95 masks * $1.8 + 16,000 gloves * $0.824 = $193,184. 3. AidData was unable to determine which hospital in New Jersey received the glove donation from ICBC. This information gap warrants further investigation.
