Loan description

Chinese Government donates 10,000 units of sports supplies to Panamanian Government, April 2022

Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On April 4, 2022, Panama's Foreign Minister, Erika Mouynes, met with Wang Yi, State Councilor and Chinese Foreign Minister, in Tunxi to discuss cooperation, trade, and investment. One notable product was a cooperation agreement in which the government of China agreed to donate 10,000 units of sporting supplies. On February 16, 2023, the Chinese embassy in Panama delivered 10,000 units of sports supplies to Panama's Ministry of Government (MINGOB) in Panama City. The delivery was specifically made by Wei Giang, Ambassador of China to Panama, and received by the Deputy Minister of Government for Panama, Juana López, as well as by other department leaders within MINGOB. China's donation consisted of a wide variety of sporting goods including balls, handles, bats, and nets. It was intended to promote the practice of sports throughout less socially integrated areas, particularly by strengthening the social reintegration efforts of Panama's National Directorate of the Penitentiary System (DGSP), National Directorate for the Prevention of Juvenile Delinquency (DIPRED), and Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies (IEI).
