Project narrative

On June 9, 2023, the Chinese Embassy in Micronesia held a handover ceremony for 2,000 solar lamps to the Department of Foreign Affairs of Micronesia to be used in the event of natural disasters. The donation occurred through the China-Pacific Island Countries Cooperation Center for Climate Change as a result of the Second China-Pacific Island Foreign Minister' Meeting. The Department of Foreign Affairs of Micronesia continued distribution of the lamps through August 2023, including 500 solar lanterns delivered to the remote islands of Pohnpei State, specifically the municipal governments of Pingelap, Mwoakilloa, Nukuoro, Kapingamarangi, Sapwaufik, Madolenihmw, Nett, Kolonia and Sokehs. The exact value of these lamps is unknown.
