Project narrative

Yanshan University partners with Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) to build the second Confucius Institute in Palapye at the BIUST campus. The exact commitment date is taken to be October 2021 when the MOU signed between Yanshan University and BIUST, and the institute is planned to be opened 10/31/2023 {{see source ID #200880}, #203786}. The unveling ceremony takes place 11/01/2023 and is attended by Zhao Dingxuan, president of Yanshan University and Otrogetes Totolo, president of Botswana International University of Science and Technology. The Confucius Institute will combine disciplines from both universities and contributes to China-Botswana exchanges. It is expected to start recuiting in 2024. The BIUST can now facilitate faculty and student exchange programs with China, and joint training of students to further internationalize education at BIUST. This second Confucius Institute is the direct results of the MOU signed between Yanshan University and BIUST in October 2021 to foster educational cooperation. The first Confucius Institute, located in Gaberone, is established jointly by Shanghai Normal University and the University of Botswana. (see Record ID#46)
