Project narrative

On Mar 3, 2023, the Chinese Embassy in Liberia held a signing ceremony for the China-Liberia Paired Hospital Cooperation Mechanism Project. This project established a cooperation relationship between the John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFKMC) in Liberia and Heilongjiang Provincial Hospital in China. According to the Charge d’Affairs of the Chinese Embassy in Liberia, the cost of China-Liberia Paired Hospital Cooperation Mechanism Project is up to USD 1 million. The project period is stated to be from 2022 to 2025. One of the main components of this cooperation mechanism is the "Cardiology Construction Cooperation Project" -- the goal of this project is to help Liberia create an independent cardiology medical team with 4 cardiologists, 4 specialist nurses, and 12 beds. They will achieve this goal through donations of medical equipment and drugs, clinical guidance from experts in Liberia, and remote and in-person training in Heilongjiang Provincial Hospital. The donation ceremony for the Cardiology Project in particular took place on February 27, 2024. Additionally during the ceremony, the Chinese Embassy donated a batch of medical supplies including ventilators, oxygen masks for ventilators, disposable masks, and anti-malarial medicine to the JFK Medical Center (captured separately in Record ID #107185). Members of the 16th Chinese medical team to Liberia were also present at the event. The China-Liberia Paired Hospital Cooperation Mechanism Project is one of the 30 China-Africa paired hospital cooperation mechanisms announced by President Xi Jinping in his speech at the opening ceremony of the 73rd World Health Assembly conference in May 2020. The National Health Commission is the main organizer of these cooperation mechanisms.
