Project narrative

On February 25, 2023, the Chinese Embassy in Costa Rica handed over the donation of an electric vehicle to the Costa Rican government, particularly the Presidential Palace, located in San José, at the 2023 Costa Rican Electric Vehicle Citizens Festival. The donated electric vehicle is a modern GAC AION (V PLUS) single-traction SUV; it is 100% electric, can travel 600 km per charge, and has 8 airbags. The estimated cost of this provision is ¢24 million CRC. The donation handover certificate was signed by the Chinese Ambassador to Costa Rica, Tang Heng, and received by Costa Rican Vice President, Stephen Brunner, for whom the vehicle's use was exclusively intended. The purpose of the donation is to further reinforce the bilateral cooperation between Costa Rica and China in responding to the climate crisis by promoting sustainability. The handover ceremony took place on Avenue Escazú in San José, and was additionally attended by various members of Costa Rica's Legislative Assembly, the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Environment and Energy of Costa Rica, the Director of the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Costa Rica, the Electric Vehicle Association of Costa Rica, news reporters, and local citizens.
