Project narrative

On December 4, 2023, the opening ceremony was held for the "Overseas Training Course on Infrastructure Construction in Costa Rica"— a training seminar sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, and organized in collaboration with the International Cooperation Center (ICC) of the Government of China, the University of Costa Rica's (UCR) Office of International Affairs and External Cooperation (OAICE), UCR's Vice-Rectorate of Research (VI), and the university's National Laboratory of Materials and Structural Models (LanammeUCR). The training took place from December 4th to December 8th, 2023, at UCR's Continuing Education Auditorium and the Plaza de la Autonomía, in San José. The purpose of the course was to educate Costa Rican Government officials and infrastructure/transportation professionals based on China's extensive experience with general aspects of infrastructure development, for instance, in the areas of roads, bridges, airports, energy industry and urban water supply, as well as on their planning, management and maintenance procedures. The opening ceremony was attended by the Chinese Ambassador to Costa Rica, Tang Heng, Vice President of UCR, Arias, Deputy Director of the ICC, Qiu Aijun, as well as 60 of the course's trainees.
