Project narrative

On January 5, 2023, the Chinese Government donated 1,996 tons of parboiled rice (equivalent to 40,021 bags) to The Gambia. The donation was received by Gambian President Adama Barrow at a ceremony held at the State House in Banjul. The rice, stored at the GGC Warehouse in Saro, was slated for nationwide distribution to vulnerable households, disaster victims, differently abled individuals, and boarding schools, including Madrassas (Islamic schools). President Barrow highlighted the contribution as part of The Gambia’s food security drive and requested further Chinese technical support for rice cultivation. Chinese Ambassador Liu Jin reaffirmed the countries’ friendship and confirmed that China would soon dispatch a new agriculture expert team to assist Gambian farmers and students.
