Project narrative

In February 2023, the Confucius Institute at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, Senegal, launched the latest iteration of the “Chinese Language + Agricultural Technology Training” program in partnership with the Chinese Agricultural Technology Experts Group. Funded by the Chinese government through the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC), this program integrates Chinese language instruction with practical agricultural training. Students received hands-on instruction in land preparation, fertilization, transplanting, and the cultivation of crops such as rice, lettuce, chives, peppers, and corn. Training sessions were conducted at the Agricultural Science and Technology Park on the university campus. Since its initial launch in 2019, this program has graduated over 200 Senegalese students, supporting both agricultural capacity building and language education objectives under Sino-Senegalese development cooperation.
