Project narrative

On November 27, 2023 the opening ceremony was held for the third "International Training Workshop on Demonstration and Promotion of Vegetable Varieties and Technologies for Latin American Countries" at the University of Costa Rica (UCR) in San Jose, Costa Rica. The training course was sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, and organized by Anhui Jianghuai Horticulture Seeds Co., Ltd., Anhui Agricultural University, as well as by UCR's Center for Grain and Seed Research (CIGRAS) and Agricultural Research Institute (IIA). The workshop was intended to train/educate professional and technical workers within the agricultural sectors of Latin American countries on topics including genetic improvement, grain quality, seeds and production technologies. Personnel from Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Costa Rica participated in the training course. The workshop went from November 28 to December 11, 2023, lasting 15 days. Since 2018, the training course has successfully trained a total of 61 participants from nine distinct Latin American nations— including those of this 2023 round. The opening ceremony was notably attended by Chinese Ambassador to Costa Rica, Tang Heng, as well as representatives from UCR, Costa Rica's National Institute of Agricultural Technology Innovation and Transfer (INTA), the National Seed Office, and Anhui Jianghuai Horticulture's training team; trainees were additionally in attendance. The closing ceremony was held on December 12, 2023.
