Project narrative

On February 28, 2023 a group of expert engineers was sent to Pavas, San José, Costa Rica by the Government of the People's Republic of China in order to provide a professional assessment regarding the feasibility of the Costa Rica's proposed project plan for the “Construction and equipping of the building for the Collection and Administration Center for Heritage Collections” at the National Museum of Costa Rica (MNCR)— a project which, if approved, will be majorly funded by non-reimbursable support from China. The technical team provided services from February 28 to March 15, 2023. Prior to the visit, it was estimated that 25% of the construction project could be carried out within 2023; however, after Chinese engineers' assessment, the execution has been rescheduled to begin in 2025. Ultimately, the project that this particular provision of services aids in initiating— the Construction and equipping of the building for the Collection and Administration Center for Heritage Collections Project— is intended to develop infrastructure that appropriately houses the research, conservation, and exhibition of natural heritage and culture within the MNCR. The necessity for developing the overarching project was discovered in 2014; since then, the Costa Rican Government, especially under President Rodrigo Chávez Robles' administration, has collaborated with the Chinese Government and members of the Beijing Institute of Architectural Design Co., Ltd. to ensure the feasibility and success of the project's ultimate execution.
