Project narrative

The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) resumes this year, 2021, the outstanding China-Panama Maritime Scholarship Program, after not having been able to hold the 2020 edition, due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The scholarship program, aimed at the realization of master's degrees in the maritime and logistics sector, developed based on the "Memorandum of Understanding on the Implementation of the Maritime Scholarship Program", signed between the AMP and the Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of China, offers the possibility, up to eight students, of being able to carry out their master's studies at the prestigious Dalian Maritime University, located in the port city of Dalian, in the province of Liaoning, People's Republic of China. The scholarships will be allocated through an equitable gender distribution - four men and four women -, seeking with this initiative to promote and guarantee gender parity, and to comply with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; specifically SDG 5, whose purpose is to "achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls." Scholarships granted in 2022 are captured in Record ID #103091.

It is unknown whether or not additional elements (housing, dining, etc.) are included in the 2021 round of scholarship given that studies were held virtually. AidData estimates grant for tuition costs alone at 416,000 RMB: (Yearly tuition per student) x (amount of years for degree) x (amount of students receiving scholarship) = 26,000 * 2 * 8 = 416,000 RMB
