Project narrative

On February 14, 2023, Chinese Ambassador to Togo Chao Weidong attended the launching ceremony of the project to provide food and nutrition aid through the UN World Food Programme (WFP) to support vulnerable populations in northern Togo. The USD 500,000 provided by China helped to acquire 694 tons of corn on the local market as part of a food basket consisting of beans, vegetable oil, iodized salt, and super cereal. The food basket will benefit 52,000 people in the Savanes and Kara Region. The food assistance from China is part of the 961 tons of food aid mobilized by the WFP to help vulnerable populations in northern Togo, including households affected by climatic changes and displaced people due to a security crisis.
