Full Description

Project narrative

On March 15, 2023, CNOOC Petroleum Guyana Limited (CPGL), one of the three joint venture partners in Guyana’s Stabroek offshore petroleum block, donated $4 million to Christ Church Secondary School to assist in its rebuilding efforts. The school, located at the corner of Camp and Middle Streets in Georgetown, was destroyed by a fire on January 12, 2023. It served 502 students and employed 39 teachers. The donation ceremony was held at the school’s temporary location at Cyril Potter College of Education in Turkeyen. CPGL President Liu Xiaoxiang presented the cheque to Headmistress Sumanta Alleyne during a special assembly attended by representatives from the school’s Parent-Teacher Association, the Ministry of Education, and the Embassy of China. Deputy Chief of Mission at the Chinese Embassy, Mr. Chen Xilai, also attended the event and praised CPGL’s philanthropic contribution as an example of Chinese companies fulfilling their social responsibility in Guyana.
