Full Description

Project narrative

On September 21, 2023, the Chinese Embassy in Fiji donated FJD $70,000 worth of musical instruments to Fiji’s Ministry of Youth and Sports at a handover event in Suva. On October 27, the 125 instruments, sourced from the city of Guangzhou, were officially gifted to the Ministry’s Youth Training Centre in Valelevu to enhance its music program and empower youth through music education. Both ceremonies were attended by Chinese Ambassador Zhou Jian, Youth and Sports Minister Jese Saukuru, and Guangzhou Municipal Committee Secretary Guo Yonghang.

Staff comments

1. Several sources name the Chinese embassy as the donor. A few attributed the donation to the City of Guangzhou.
