Project narrative

On October 26, 2023, Chinese Ambassador to Guyana Guo Haiyan presented a check for GYD 20.7 million to Nazrul Hussain, Director General of the Guyana Civil Defense Commission (CDC), representing a major donation for disaster prevention and mitigation. The ceremony was held at the CDC Headquarters in Thomas Lands, Georgetown. The donation was intended to help with Guyana’s El Niño preparedness, and included donations of water tanks, water pumps and hoses, potable water containers, water dispensers and fire extinguishers. These materials were identified as critical during the CDC’s drought outreach program and will be distributed to affected communities, beginning with vulnerable villages along the Linden–Soesdyke Highway.
