Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On March 16, 2023, the Chinese Embassy in Kiribati donated 30 solar kit sets to Kiribati's Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS). H.E. Ambassador Tang Songgen handed over the solar kits to HM Dr. Tinte Itinteang. MHMS Secretary Uering Iteraera, Director-General Dr. Revite Kirition, MHMS directors, and Embassy staff attended the handover ceremony. These solar kits will be distributed to medical clinics in the outer islands, contributing to more accessible and improved medical services for outer-island communities. The monetary value of the donation is unknown. HM Dr. Tinte expressed gratitude for the Embassy’s donation, describing it as a new milestone in Kiribati-China cooperation in the health sector. The donation supports not only WHO’s mission to assist hard-to-reach outer islands but also promotes green energy, which is vital for Kiribati—a country on the front lines of climate change. Solar power has played a key role in Kiribati-China cooperation. By the end of 2022, the Chinese Embassy had provided 1,050 solar streetlights, covering most outer islands. By mid-2023, the Embassy plans to supply 9,810 household solar kits to the Government of Kiribati, aiming to equip households across all outer islands.
