Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

The Chinese government donated 225 prefabricated houses worth RMB 10 million, weighing a total of 420 tons, to the Syrian Arab Republic in April 2023 to help resettle Syrians displaced by the February earthquake. The handover ceremony for the houses occurred on May 31st in Damascus. The houses had steel doors, plastic steel windows, electrical utilities, hot-dip galvanized metal frames, and rockwool wallboards. The houses were handed over to the Syrian Red Crescent to distribute and build.128 of the housing units were designated for the district of Latakia.

Staff comments

1. Some sources indicate that 228 houses were donated rather than 225. Chinese official sources all stated 225 houses, while some Syrian sources stated 228. Prensa Latina (source ID #204514) implied that this shipment was merely the first of several, but I found no sources indicating subsequent shipments, and after-the-fact mentions of this donation always mentioned 225-228 houses donated.
