Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On August 21, 2023, during the visit of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) and Mayor of Dushanbe Rustam Emomali to Beijing, Tajikistan and the Chinese Government exchanged letters signed for the commitment of a grant worth USD 2 Million for an assembly hall in the new building of the Government of Tajikistan. This grant was handover on January 29, 2024, with a signed agreement between the Tajik Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan Zavqi Zavqizoda and the Chinese Ambassador to Tajikistan Ji Shumin. Previously, China had already allocated RMB 1.5 billion, which was equivalent to about USD 220 million, in no-strings aid to Tajikistan for construction of the parliament complex and the new building for the Tajik government in the agreement signed in 2017 (Linked to Record ID#53786). In 2018, China further provided RMB 900 million for the construction of this project (Linked to Record ID#71727).
