Project narrative

On July 5, 2023, the Chinese Government donated a technological platform to the government of the Dominican Republic to strengthen the response capabilities of the National Emergency and Security System 9-1-1. The handover ceremony was held at the National Palace in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The donation was delivered by Wang Shouwen, Vice Minister of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, to Joel Santos Echavarría, Minister of the Presidency of the Dominican Republic. The event was attended by senior officials including the Minister of Economy, Planning, and Development Pável Isa Contreras; 9-1-1 Executive Director Randolfo Rijo Gómez; Vice Minister for Government Monitoring and Coordination José Ramón Holguín; and Vice Minister for International Cooperation Olaya Dotel; alongside representatives of the Chinese government. Minister Santos Echavarría emphasized that the platform would significantly improve emergency response efficiency and noted that, thanks to recent technological advancements, health service response times had already been reduced by over three minutes.
