Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In early September 2023, the Chinese Embassy in the Dominican Republic donated a 32-seat bus and a set of technological equipment to the Mauricio Báez Foundation Sports and Culture Club in Villa Juana, Santo Domingo. The donated equipment—valued at approximately USD $90,000—included several cameras, video cameras, laptops, LED lights, memory cards, a gaming PC, and a drone. The donation aimed to support the foundation’s youth outreach and social services in the community. The donation ceremony was held at the Mauricio Báez School auditorium and was attended by Ambassador Chen Luning, Club President José “Boyón” Domínguez, and founder Leo Corporán. Corporán confirmed that the equipment would be used to launch a series of film and photography workshops for local youth. As part of the celebration, the Foundation hosted a special U18 basketball tournament called the Copa de la Amistad Embajada China.

1. The Chinese Embassy Instagram post was published September 4, 2023, but gives no indication when the handover date took place. AidData believes that the ceremony likely took place in early September 2023, and therefore estimating 9/1/2023 as the commitment date.
